Here's a new one -
misheard/deliberately tweaked song lyrics.
The idea is you comment with a few lines of a song, but with some
words altered to make a place name.
My one to start: Unchained Melody.
'Oh my love, my darling; I Hungerford your touch..'
Geddit? Name the song, then the line you're tweaking.

I was wondering about Fly Me To Dunoon, but the rest of that verse might
not fit all that well.

I said my, my, my,
I'm Thames Ditton, twice shy, babe

Sleaford two
And two for tea...

This Kirby the last time
This Kirby the last time
Maybe the last time I don't know

When I was a little bitty boy
My grandmother bought me a cute little toy
Silver bells hanging on a string
She told me it was my Dingwall-ing-a-ling...

Rah rah ah-ah-ah!
Ro mah ro-mah-mah
Gaga ooh-la-la!
Want your Truro-mance

Dungeness, Dungeness,
The greatest gift that I possess...

Hello, Matron.
I can Sleaford miles and miles and miles and miles and miles...

Take a load off Fanny, take a load for free
Take a load off Fanny, and you put the Isle Of Wight on me

By the rivers of Badminton
There we lay down
And there we wept
When we remembered Brighton;
Let the words of Yarmouths
And the meditations of Ware, Herts
Be acceptable in Rosyth
Here tonight.

When I was just a little girl
I asked my mother, what will Ibiza
Willoughby I be pretty
Willoughby rich
Here's what she said to me
Que será, será
Whatever will be, will be
The future's not Leigh-on-Sea
Wetherby, will be.

You know, I'm not absolutely convinced that these purple tablets are
working...

Here's a new one -
misheard/deliberately tweaked song lyrics.
The idea is you comment with a few lines of a song, but with
some words altered to make a place name.
My one to start: Unchained Melody.
'Oh my love, my darling; I Hungerford your touch..'
Geddit? Name the song, then the line you're tweaking.
'She wore an itsy-bitsy teenie-weenie, yellow polkadot
Basingstoke.'
:o))
So she took her love for to gaze awhile upon the fields of barley
In his arms she fell as her hair came down among Sheffields of gold
Little red Consett Baby you're much too fast Little red Consett
You need a love that's gonna last
Fly me to L.A And let me play among the stars Let me see what love
is like On poppers, pot and E
I was wondering about Fly Me To Dunoon, but the rest of that verse
might not fit all that well.
I said my, my, my,
I'm Thames Ditton, twice shy, babe
Sleaford two And two for tea...
This Kirby the last time This Kirby the last time Maybe the last
time I don't know
When I was a little bitty boy My grandmother bought me a cute
little toy Silver bells hanging on a string She told me it was my
Dingwall-ing-a-ling...
Rah rah ah-ah-ah!
Ro mah ro-mah-mah Gaga ooh-la-la!
Want your Truro-mance
Dungeness, Dungeness,
The greatest gift that I possess...
Llanelli The Elephant packed her trunk...er...
Hello, Matron.
I can Sleaford miles and miles and miles and miles and miles...
Take a load off Fanny, take a load for free Take a load off Fanny,
and you put the Isle Of Wight on me
By the rivers of Badminton There we lay down And there we wept When
we remembered Brighton;
Let the words of Yarmouths And the meditations of Ware, Herts Be
acceptable in Rosyth Here tonight.
When I was just a little girl I asked my mother, what will Ibiza
Willoughby I be pretty Willoughby rich Here's what she said to me
Que será, será Whatever will be, will be The future's not
Leigh-on-Sea Wetherby, will be.
You know, I'm not absolutely convinced that these purple tablets are
working...
Hurrah!
Sid's woken up :))
:)
She's leaving Holm Here comes the Sunderland Eleanor Rugby Ticket to
Ryde 4,000 holes in Blackburn singing at the dead of night The
Continuing Story of Bungalow Billericay You've really got a hold Olney
Happiness is a warm Gunnersbury Helter Skelmersdale Norwegian Woodford
Within you without ewskesbury
There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is Mold And she's buying a
stairway to Havant
Roedean, Roedean, Roedean, Roedean,
I'm begging of you please don't take my man
Zing went Hastings of my heart
Calais doesn't live here anymore

"My lonely world is only eight by Tenby."

One for Francophiles who don't speak Norfolk:
"I thank the Lord that I've been Brest
With more than my share of Happisburgh."

And one from across the Pond:
"Wake up little Sioux City."

From the Glasgow Songbook:

It's my Partick and I'll cry if I want to,

I'm Govan it up for your love, right now.

There's one in Warwickshire http://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/SP1794
another in Northumberland http://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NY9487 with a
nearby pike.

"Hull-o!  Is it me you really want?"
"My lonely world is only eight by Tenby."
"I thank the Lord that I've been Brest
With more than my share of Happisburgh."
"Wake up little Sioux City."
Girl, when I'm with you I lose track of time
When I'm without you you're stuck on my mind
Be all you need till the day that I die
I'll love you
Over and Dover again
For Lincoln love again
Never Wantage to...
When Wallasey you again?
Your Ely Got A Hold On Me
Cambourne Everybody
Summertown Blues
I Walk The Lyme
Uttoxeter Marlene Dietrich
And you dance like Zizi Jeanmaire...
(This ain't over...)
"A hundred and one pounds of fun
That's my little Honeybourne"
Them Ho-o-o-niton women
Gimme, gimme, gimme the Honiton blues
Kendal In the Wind
Danzig In The Street
You walked out Omagh dreams
And into my heart...
Dancing, dancing
Byfleet keep dancing, dancing, dancing
When will I Seaton again?
Macarthur Park is Melton in the dark,
All the Gretna Green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in Bahrain...

How does it feel,
To be on your own,
With no direction home,
A complete unknown,
Like a Leytonstone?

Well, something is Harpenden here
And you don't know what it is
Do you, Mr Jones?[1]

[1]No points for guessing which Dylan album I've been listening to...

I have always thought you to be a woman of the very finest taste and
cultural discernment. This is proof positive.

PS. This isn't a swerve, really; have you read Terry Pratchett's Soul
Music? I loved all of it, but there's an especially brilliant gag at
the very end which he's been setting up for about 250 pages and which I
didn't see coming at all. I think it's the longest I've ever laughed
out loud at a book.

That may tempt me to try it. A very dear friend who is a consummate
Pratchett fan [1] gave me Wyrd Sisters a long time ago. I read it on a
long bus journey and cried with laughter much of the way, to the
irritation of other passengers. I have since tried several other
Pratchetts but none of them have really hit the spot, even those
featuring the wonderful Granny Weatherwax.

I see it's a fiver on Kindle so perhaps I'll download it for when I've
run out of my current comfort reading, the adventures of M D Falco.

[1] to the extent of persuading the university where he worked to give
TP an honorary award: much to his delight, my friend received a
reciprocal award from the Unseen University and was allowed to wear the
Pratchett hat.

By coincidence Sid, that's the very one I'm reading (or, should I say,
REreading for the 10th, 11th or 12th time - I forget - but I always have
one on the go amongst other reading) at the moment.

One knows all of the jokes (like the one you're referring to) but they're
just as funny when you re-read them - if that's your bag.

Normally, I hate lack of snippage too - but UMRA punthreads, and
similar, are a special case. I can't remember whether this one has (had)
developed into something that would have let it qualify as an "and
similar", or had just degenerated into non-worth-keeping non-snippage.

I agree with you on both counts, John. If the messages were snipped
rather than added on to there would be more repetition in the thread
than an edition of Just a Minute with Jenny Eclair on the panel
