I've got to go. Now we are settled in our new home I'm closing down my last Windows
machine and moving to Linux and probably not going to get the round tuits to get a
newsreader up and running as UMRA was the only newsgroup I access and as I haven't
listened for a long, long time ...

Wishing everyone well.

The newsgroup bit of Thunderbird works well in Linux (apart from dodgy
attributions). I used to use Pan and there are some other decent
newsreaders.

You could also install WINE (Wine Is Not an Emulator - it's a
compatibility layer), and still use Forte Agent.

Newsgrouper is a neat web client for Usenet text groups so available from any browser. You have to sign up with Colin.

Wishing you all the best in your new home and hoping the move
turns out to be all you hoped for and more.

Do look in to umra from time to time, whenever you've a mind to.
You'll be missed.

This post is coming to you free via Linux Mint from novabbs.com
<https://www.novabbs.com/aus+uk/thread.php?group=uk.media.radio.archers>
I find novabbs very handy for reading and writing to usenet when I
can't easily use my usual newsreader.

With all best wishes,

I'm pleased for you that you are settled at home but Umra will be the
poorer if we see no more of you. Of course, once an Umrat always an
Umrat so you will find a warm welcome any time you are in the
neighbourhood and feel like dropping in for a while.

All best wishes from me also. I don't contrubute much to this group and
I too have given up listening to TA. But it is still nice to pop in
here occasionally to see what is going on in this timewarp. I love to
see all the familiar names still posting. I am sure you will eventually
pop in via Linux on a rainy day when the beach is less appealing.

I would have liked to say "and what a good job you are doing" but as I
(surprised and delighted) have been nominated myself a couple of times
this year perhaps it would be more seemly for me to keep schtum in that
regard.

Admittedly I access multiple groups not just UMRA so you might not
think it's worth the effort.

Some years ago we visited the US one. The experience for someone
disabled it very good. 2 of us from the group were and we had a mini
bus to ourselves and a guide. Disabled paring spaces all over were
respected too. We had a house in Kissimmee for a while and staye there
and called in to some place to register as disabled and I think got a

Round these parts (at least in my mother's mind) if my father had a half
hour DIY job to do it would take two weeks to a month. A "Daddy's

Oh yes. If I have a job that ought to take an hour or so I need to way
at least until the next day when I have absolutely no other commitments,
all the stores where the parts I hadn't anticipated needing are open and
I've slept well and my joints aren't aching too much. That can sometimes
be a long wait

I run Emacs, currently KDE Neon flavour, and I read Umra using Gnus
under Emacs. And I've yet to find a reader, graphic or plain text, that
works better for me.

Gnus is a complex nightmare to master in its entirety but a basic nntp
setup from which you can subscribe to just one newsgroup is very easy to
set up.
