Life is undergoing some changes and challenges here, as my sig might
suggest. But the interruption to the Birthday service is because I've
been doing some long overdue maintenance and upgrades to my home systems.
Most of the software was at least ten years out of date, and was giving
security and compatibility problems on the modern Internet.

The Usenet server itself is upgraded OK now, but I hadn't dug down into
the system logs to notice that the code which runs daily and generates
the postings is complaining about some incompatibility. I hadn't really
checked on it since it has run itself without any trouble up to now.
I will try to make time for it very soon and see what needs tweaking.

Best wishes to all and thanks again for letting me know.

We will be restoring normality as soon as we are sure what is normal
anyway.

I also look forward to the return of the birthday, but it is
increasingly unlikely as time passes :)

Look on the bright side. No birthdays means that none of us are getting
any older!

I hope it isn't too long before an acceptable version of normality is
restored, preferably one which includes umra, and even better if that
includes the birthday monitor as well.
