I suppose the reason why nobody is posting much on umra is because we
are all too busy stuffing political leaflets through letterboxes.
Well, then: it looks as if this has arrived just in time:-

A little bit of self-promotion, there.

Congratulations, Nick.

As for the last letter in the pack, isn't it the other lot who are toast?

Well, yes, but that's what knicker-flashing is all about, isn't it?

Congratulations, Nick.

I'm also a bit puzzled about what sort of person pays over ten quid
for a glorified pooper-scooper?

But that last letter is puzzling. (I think) The chap (still) lectures
at the University of Huddersfield and has displayed left of centre
opinions before so I'm wondering if his remark is an in-joke
understood by The Guardian but not by me?

As a one-time deliverer of many leaflets at election times, I can assure
anybody interested that it's not dogs that you worry about, you can hear
them coming. It's cats who lurk and then leap at intruding fingers.

I'm doubtful about leaflets being robust enough, unless perhaps rolled
into bundles of say a dozen, without needing risky manual intervention.
It seems to me you need something like a robust tube of the right bore.
Or maybe something like a speculum?

Lovely - was that a TWATBILI?

This time, I've been quite surprised at how many I've had (Weald of Kent
- a new constituency [I think we used to be Ashford something]): Con (A3
folded), Lib Dem (A4 folded), Lab (A4 trifold), Reform (A5), Lab (A4
folded), Lib Dem (A4 folded) (different person!), and Green (A5).

We have not been inundated with leaflets, and only had one actual
knock at the door,

I am curious about one of the Independents on the Rushcliffe
ballot paper who doesn't seem to want to let anybody know why
they deserve a vote. Such a low profile seems pointless.

I have just checked again and a single paragraph has appeared
yesterday on
https://whocanivotefor.co.uk/person/117393/harbant-kaur-sehra>

I guess she doesn't care about the postal vote.

Oh, we hardly ever get those - I'd put it down to us being about half an
hour's walk from the village here at TN27 0DD
(https://maps.app.goo.gl/jhDBpbXZbihEkPTEA), which also saves us from
the October demanding-with-menaces, and carol singers, except presumably
they must have come here to deliver the leaflets.

Maybe appeals to the "none of the above" voter. I think there have been
times when I'd have been tempted to vote for an I-know-nothing-about
candidate.

I have long hoped for an Official Monster Raving Looney candidate. It
would make a change from all the unofficial raving loonies I get.

I do have a Heritage Party option. He appears to be opposed to renewable
energy. He probably also wants to keep women chained to the kitchen sink
(How on earth will they do the rest of the housework?) and colonise
somewhere.

I was a teller/oberver at the vote counting one year in Stoke
newington. I had been helping the Lib dems in about 2004. There was a
Monster Looney candidate and he or one of his party was there too.
That seat was always Dianne Abbott's.

above" option.

Hmm, sounds like one of those people who think the 1950s (and into '60s,
if you watch Call The Midwife) was a great time: quite apart from the
developments since then in medicine (and everything else scientific),
we've come on a long way in social attitudes, too (race, women's rights,
sexual orientation ...)

I can go with that, but it always reminds me of
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sister_Boom_Boom.

"Sister Boom Boom ... was the drag nun persona of astrologer Jack
Fertig. ... In 1982, Sister Boom Boom ran for a seat on the San
Francisco Board of Supervisors ... with his occupation listed as "Nun of
the Above". ... After he started campaigning for mayor in the 1983
recall election against incumbent Dianne Feinstein, San Francisco passed
an ordinance requiring candidates to use only their legal names on the
ballot."

So, which particular sub-genus of Reform Party candidate do you not
have? The variety that has been kicked out of the party by what we
might loosely term their "leaders;" the type that have kicked
themselves out of the party because of those "leaders;" the ones who
were only in it for a laugh but panicked when it started to look as if
they might actually win the actual seats they were actually standing
for and are now endorsing other candidates - or the other lot?

We've got a girly standing for Reform in our constituency. I didn't
think Reform approved of wimmin but I suppose that if The Garrick Club
can do it...

May I take this opportunity to remind readers that the Reform Party is
not a normal Party but is in fact a limited company which has "owners"
and not "leaders" and once they sweep to power they will only be
interested in the profits - unlike other parties which allegedly do it
in the public interest.
