In a few months my current hosting deal expires and I have been told
that it will cost £272.79 to renew for two years which may or may not
include VAT as they don't say and even I know that seems expensive.

So the time has come ...

Previously there have been recommendations hereabouts for Krystal and
Mythic Beasts and I have found a third - Freethought all of which seem
to be a lot cheaper!

As time is ticking are there any another suggestions and any advice on
making it easy?

Many thanks.

I have had my hosting with EUKhost for years and they've always been
very helpful. It includes a cPanel interface where you can look at and
manage most things, and they are very prompt and effective (even if they
speak techglish which occasionally requires decoding) when you ask for
help. I have recently migrated to them a huge mailserver for a charity I
help run, and they were impeccable.

I suppose it depends what kind of a package you want and how big your
website is. Total cost for the basic Linux package (you access it via
cPanel on a web browser, no Linux needed) is about £50 inc VAT plus
domain registration if you need it.

Thank you - that looks a good bet too. Obviously my email usage is low
but knowing that the support is there is worth knowing.

I use netnerd.com, but I don't exercise it enough to say whether it is
good.

I use fastmail.fm for my email and find the ability to have multiple
email bases (***@xyzzy.fastmail.uk, ***@plugh.fastmail.uk,
***@plover.fastmail.uk, etc) invaluable.

Having now sat down to do the comparisons I can see that all of them
looking like being a lot cheaper than my current supplier. My current
supplier does not have cPanel but having used one I find it helpful -
which rules out Mythic Beasts as they only offer Shell access.

My first check implies NetNerd is the cheapest as it includes a 2 year
deal in up front pricing which appears to cost about £110, although I
need to work through the pricing for domains again as these will be
transferred in. I do not need multiple email bases so the basic should
work.

I just have to break to the good lady wife that this swap is going to
happen and all email devices will need reconfiguring which will be
interesting.

Thank you to everyone for the suggestions.
