Discussion:
Ask UMRA - Thunderbird
(too old to reply)

I am convinced that Thunderbird has changed but for the life of me I
cannot work out if it is me or the software.

I have three panes in front of me - folders, message headers, display
pane. This has not changed.

I move through umra by using the space bar.

Now if I respond to a message when I have sent my response I find that
the focus is no longer on the message headers but on the message. I
then have to find and move the mouse and click on the next message,
rather than pressing the space bar.

I realise this is a first world problem but anyone know if the focus can
be made to stay with the header?

Thank you.

That's the behaviour I've seen for the last couple of years. I've just
scanned through the settings and can't see any obvious way of changing it.

No, mine stays focussed on headers, so I can then click on spacebar for
next message.

I use CTL-R to reply if that makes any difference... and have compressed
headers.

It does, and reasonably so. Since the reply button is in the message
pane clicking it will take the focus there.

Can't help with the compressed headers, have you tried the pharmacist?

Was there, by any chance, a little voice in your head adding "Bar-baara"
as you wrote that, Brritters?

(Only big fans of The Royle Family will know why I ask that!)

It was said - frequently - by Tom Courtney in the rôle of David's father
and is one of the numerous RF quotes which are oft repeated by my
daughter daughter and I.

I don't use a message pane but open each message in a new tab. I find
'F' works to go from message to message and 'space' works to scroll down
through a message and then hops to the next one (all in the same tab).

Thank you. I suspect the solution is to use Ctrl+R in that case. I
wonder if I stopped using that for some reason. I have a feeling that
the focus did not change when clicking a button but now does so.
