Post by Chris J DixonPost by Nick OdellPost by KosmoThey create dams where they want them. How do those spouting this
ensure that the new unexpected dams do not actually make flooding or
sewage spills worse?
Managing water already seems to be beyond the experts that are alleged
to exist so adding new and unplanned changes to the water flow may
actually may it worse rather than better?
I think the general understanding is thagt the beavers know best.
Remember at the start of this month we were talking about the Czech
Republic beavers that saved a local authority something like one
million euros by building exactly the right dam exactly where it was
needed whilst the councillors were still bickering about the details?
I did read that story, but if you like watching beaver dams being
demolished, Youtube has a vast store of such videos, ranging from
powering in with a large excavator, to manual work usually
That such work is required seems to be a pretty strong indication
that not all aspects of their water management "assistance" are
welcome.
Interesting. In one video I thought perhaps he was blind in one eye but
that must have been a trick of the light.
The beavers' work may not be welcome but my money would be on the
beavers to know more about what the land needs over what the humans
want.
There's a new-build housing estate near here where the residents are
complaining that, every time it rains, their houses flood and they can't
move away because the the properties are unmortgageable. It's on a road
called "Spout Hill." It's been called Spout Hill for centuries because
when it rains, the water drains down from the hills and from underneath
the soil the springs.. ....spout! There's a good reason why nobody had
built there before and I suspect that the solution to their problem
probably involves not building hoses there in the first place. Something
the beavers probably knew already.
