Took me a while to find it! Probably mainly because of the still-extant
practice of putting everything in capitals, and the fear of hyphens.

I suggest you post the link to APIHNA. (I would have crossposted it, but
that brings out the Grand Fenwickians.) They'll approve of it there
(they don't just concentrate on the possessive ones, or even just
apostrophes).

I am near the Antonine Wall and have an HSMO book "Glasgow, Clydeside
and Stirling" which is riddled with spurious apostrophes.

What's HSMO? (I'm guessing maybe "Scottish" or "Scotland", and "Office",
but can't guess the other two.)

"... four Oscars, and two further nominations ... On these criteria, he's
Britain's most successful film director." Powell or Pressburger? no; Richard
Attenborough? no; Nick Park!

My guess is a typo - Her/His Majesty's Stationery Office.

It used to be a clothing company until it was dissolved about a month
ago. I think this usage might be referring to the currently-less-than
mobile King Charles the Unwell as His Stationary Majesty.

Sounds like a very British version of Hero of Athens, or some similar
character (-:

I trust you had an angle grinder with you?

A drop of touch-up paint to cover the operation scar would be ideal, but
I wouldn't expect you to be carrying that.

Ah... Bring back the days when the worst that could happen in public
spaces
would be that councils dropped apostrophes from street signs and all a
pedantic umrat need carry in their pocket was a black, indelible
marker pen.

For several years I worked with switchgear which was often labelled with
the road or street which it was to supply. The default on those labels
was to never include apostrophes.
It was a daily source of discomfort and irritation.
