Sorry we moved from Plusnet to Zzoomm as they had dug up the road and we
thought they should be rewarded for the mess they made. I cannot find
fault with the speed but for those interested did not find the post
installation customer service at all great and hope that it does not go
wrong again.

ICBA to do the research but if they are in any way affiliated with
City Fibre (or should that be City Fiber???) I would be inclined to
reach for the nearest barge pole.

We had a gentleman calling here the other day about City Fib(e)r(e)
claiming that many of our neighbours had made complaints about the
quality of the service. Given that they are the infrastructure
providers rather than the ISPs I'm not sure what anybody could do to
improve the situation for them so I'd guess they are best avoided if
possible.

I'm still using mobile broadband but I've put the SIM card into a
proper desktop router and it's working well.

I believe that toob has been beset by teething troubles. But once
corrected seems to be functioning well.

The other point to be aware of is that the router has no capacity for
voip which must be installed separately.

Thank you Flop, I have started looking into Zen from City Fibre which does
cater for VOIP - any users here or comments on them please?

May I refer the honourable member to the answer given previously. If
your new ISP is going to be running on existing infrastructure then I
would expect performance to be no better and no worse than before -
allowing for odd tweaks here and there upstream. But if City Fibre are
going to be laying new fibre for you then you might want to heed the
complaints written about above. I don't have their equipment but I see
it all up and down my street. The cables which run to each house are
suspended from existing telephone poles and don't look like exterior
grade material at all and the junction boxes "fixed" to property walls
look as if they will fall apart or fall off pretty soon.

Maybe it depends on the local installers. I have had Vodafone via City
Fibre here for a couple of years now: it is a seriously solid cable
running under the street, then through my garden wall and front garden
via a long shielding tube to the box in my sitting room. It all looks
weatherproof and indeed squirrel/fox/oaf proof. The Vodafone router
reboots itself inconveniently but that's a Voda problem and the actual
fibre hardware seems excellent.

I don't know about City Fibre's technical skills, but their admin is
abysmal. They laid fibre in my street a year or two ago. When I enquire
on their website about availability, it tells me I live on a "Private
Road" and may need to "gain permission". Who from? Incompetence like
that I can do without.

City Fibre have been all over our environs for the last year and more
closing roads with ensuing chaos. Now the cabling has been done, they
appear to be proper exterior grade equipments on the telegraph poles and I
may ask a neighbour or two if they have CF / Zen services. When the cabling
was installed underground in existing ducting, most of the work was carried
out by CF but with BT Openreach seeming to be working with them some of the
time.
