I have several different accounts within Thunderbird and have just
discovered that most of the folders and subfolders of one account are
completely empty. I want to look at backups made with Mozbackup and see
what I have saved and restore as required.

I do not want to do a complete restore, I do not want to risk losing
anything that is currently present for that account. Can anyrat please
give me simple, step-by-step instructions how to do this? (I have
looked at TB Help but is is all way over my aged head.)

I think you can just open up the Mozbackup file and it's all there (plus
headers and stuff). Then there's an option within TB to import. I
haven't done this myself but am trusting it can be done. TB has been a
bit flaky since the big update to version 128 and it worries me. Not
that I have dared to ferret about in the folders yet.

I am still on 102 because, as I recall, I hit some major problem with
the next version so went back. Is it safe yet?

I'm now on 128.1.1, which downloaded and installed itself yesterday.
Version 128 was OK, 128.1.0 was flaky, tended to hang, not responding,
when downloading large or numerous emails or updates. 128.1.1 seems OK
so far: it's generally faster, though it can take its time loading old
emails but so far I've found everything I've looked for.

I have moved forward to 115.10.1 with a suggestion I move to 116. (I
spent ages finding out how I had blocked updates - the online help
recommended a setting which was not the way I set it up - I had to find
the right guidance - should learn to document these things).

Whilst 115 does not seem to be having the heebie jeebies which led to my
regression I am not sure I want to move to anything later.

The one thing I would "like" Thunderbird to do is a better text editor
for composing emails (NOT umra posts) - any sign of that in 128 please?

Thank you.

All seems the same. And they still have not implemented a new Manually
Sort Folders add-on. Grrr.

I have that disabled as well - but if I right click on a folder name I
can move it using the Move command on the menu - does that not achieve
the same result?

You can move any sub-folder to another main folder by drag-and-drop,
including into the archived local folders. You can't alter the order in
which the account folders arrange themselves, which remain as you put
them before version 128. Nor can you change the order of subfolders,
which remain stubbornly alphanumerical. I used to have more frequently
used folders at the top, now I have to scroll down a fair way to find
some of them, really annoying. I have a lot of account folders and many
useful sub-folders and it's a pain not to be able to arrange them
according to the way I use them.

On this I found that if you go into Account settings you can move a
whole account up and down which I find an acceptable solution.

Could you just put a 2 digit number or a letter at the front of each
(sub)folder name to force the sequence you want ?
I have a folder on my desktop that has shortcuts to all the folders I
use most frequently and I have a letter at the front of the real folder
name so the most frequently used are at the top and they are always in
the sequence I expect.
And it is possible to colour code folders - would that aim finding
particular ones in a long list?
