<waves> I'd forgotten the question marks I'd had about that, a few
weeks ago, so it was a complete surprise. I'm just hoping that the same
isn't true for Alice, in one of TA's favourite "compare and contrast"
storylines.

If you mean that George wouldn't fess up to driving, my hand is well and
truly up. I don't think I've ever hated a fictional person as much as I
now hate George.

Good point. I hope so too. But wouldn't put it past some of the Grundy
family to encourage him not to say. Eddie, for instance. Depends who
he sent the message to, perhaps.

Trouble is, he sent it to his dad, who had (helpfully) told us recently
that he doesn't know how to access the voicemail on his phone.
Presumably this means it will be some days, or longer, before Will, or
anyone else, hears the message.

She was horrible to Usha when Usha snagged the vicar. That was the nadir
of my relationship with Shula. She was nasty to Elizabeth when she had
an abortion. Otherwise I haven't actively hated Shula, just seen her as
a prig.

It was less Usha snagging the vicar - I am not sure that bothered Shula
- they had already fallen out over DDD and rightly Usha could not
forgive her. Shula then used the antagonism to be difficult to poor Alan.

With the right writers Shula was often entertaining.

I think it was, very much Usha snagging the vicar that Shula resented.
She'd have been jealous of any woman Alan had got involved with, as she
definitely considered him to be her property and was, to an extent,
having an emotional affair with him (albeit completely
non-reciprocated). The fact it was Usha, who she had fallen out with so
badly, made the situation ten times worse, from Shula's perspective.

I agree that he's ghastly, and that is a hypocritical action in the heat of
the moment - and he is but a teenager. When Shula was messing around with Dr
Locke, she was a 40 year old woman, an allegedly god-fearing churchwarden. It
was a sustained deception, in contrast with her saintly self-image.

I hope I'm not judged by the worst things I did as a teenager, but I'll be
happy to be judged by the things I did as a fully-formed adult.

Did she have a saintly _self_-image? I know (some) other people thought
well of her, but I don't remember her being full of herself. [Well,
there's the religion bit, but that's something outside my knowledge.]

She certainly didn't behave well then but I would put most of my
opprobrium on Richard Locke. To my eye, it was a text book example of
why doctors are forbidden from having relationships with patients. She
was incredibly vulnerable, when Daniel was very ill, and Richard was
able to swoop in, acting the hero[1], finding answers for her and being
able to explain everything that was going on. Poor Alistair was left on
the sidelines, looking very limp in the comfort giving stakes.

It wasn't too surprising that, when offered Richard's shoulder (and
other parts of his person) to cry on, she convinced herself that he was
her knight in shining armour.

[1] Having previously taken the same role, when he got her through her
IVF and the early stages of her pregnancy, after she lost Mark.
