Things are certainly quiet round here. Perhaps everybody is stunned at
the unexpected revelation that a Grundy is a bad'un and an
Archer-Aldridge cross is lily-white.

BTW, given Alice's forgiving attitude to just about everyone I was
starting to wonder if running The Stables automatically confers
sainthood but then I thought "Lilian".

Not Lilian - Justin.

You're using Thunderbird, aren't you? Have you (or some ornery default)
accidentally ticked the View - Unread only button?

The entire newsgroup vanished into the ether - and it is not in the
deleted box either!

Something's up: I read a message from Pauline Young over on novabbs
which hadn't appeared in my Eternal September feed. I've replied to it
over on nova but so far it seems only to have appeared on nova. Does
ES think it's spam?

No. The original and your reply have both just shown up together on E-S.

Rosie
It has been, yes, and I've been very surprised not to have seen
any mention. I think it was a couple or more weeks ago that it
emerged -- I think I learned or had it confirmed by
eternal-september.support. Basically, a blown server, and then
the mess of having to restore things. I think it some stage it
ended up with the creation of fresh indexing in some cases,
with the result that if you're using a mail agent that downloads
just headers initially there are going to be mismatches and
disappearances, real or apparent.

As I'm in the habit of
letting my umra inbox stack up to the rafters, allowing me
potentially to look at, and even answer, non-recent contributions,
I've seen lots disappear. I'm hopeful that they'll still be in
the cache folder that Claws puts them in when I first read them.
It's certainly got a few thousand still in it. It wasn't like this with
Turnpike! [Eeyore face]

I've thought things were getting to look like normal again
but haven't checked much the last couple of days.

Ahh Thank you. Certainly once I had a new connection to the server it
all downloaded going back ages.

Instead of saying "to look at, and even answer, non-recent
contributions," you could have just said "Gilliver." Would have saved
your fingers!
