I've just added Ambridge to
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rewilding#Britain ! Let's see how long it
remains there.

It was prompted by a tweet
https://twitter.com/PeterMGilliver/status/1806238882033213948, about a
field in Norfolk that has been "rewilded" and produced a huge area of
poppies, which IMO is rather nice (see the tweet - Peter was just
retweeting). Someone queried the word, and I thought I'd see if W had
anything about it to point him to, rather than just bluster on myself
about something of which I know little.

Although reading the W article from the top, it seems to involve large
carnivores, which I'm pretty certain the Ambridge rewilding area(s? I
couldn't remember if there is/are more than one) don't.

Not long. Though a line _has_ been left _mentioning_ the concept's
appearance in TA - though as that's "citation requested" it may go soon:
anyone got a clue (preferably with something that can be pointed to)
when rewilding first appeared?

The party arrangement, which obliges perfectly sensible people to pretend the
world is simple, turns representatives into drones.

Oh, well done, John! Bravo! (Although before I followed the link I'd
been rather hoping you might have smuggled it in between Broughton
Hall and the Mapperton Estate.)

I'm sure that if you scroll back through Carolet's very excellent
cast, credits and spoilers it won't take long to dig up some robust
links amongst the pages of the Radio Times. In the meantime, would a
mention from Hansard help?

Maybe I should have, but I suspect the lack-of-humour people get
notification whenever their precious page is edited, so they'd have seen
it wherever I put it.

<https://ambridgereporter.org.uk/synopses/2024.html>, which I rather
ungraciously moaned about when Vicky mentioned it, for its provision
of one cumulative file per year, would be ideally suited for that or (as
it struck me later) any other kind of longitudinal research.

Unfortunately, it only goes back to October 2020, but I'll cite that
anyway, as the word appears in it!

Ah yes, I remember now. And that I when I was looking then I
also found Chris Harrison's Lowfield synopses archived at
https://thearchersarchives.org.uk . Unfortunately test
searches of 'rewild' and 'wilding' didn't yield any hits.

mentions slow progress on rewilding so it had been going for a while
then - after Peggoi's 100th of course.

The references I'd added to the Wikipedia rewilding page to support the
Archers reference - those provided here, Hansard and ambridgereporter -
have not been deleted, so I guess the humourless folk have accepted
them.

2019! Seems a very long time ago. In farming it probably is.

I think, in terms of returning areas of land to their original
condition, five years probably _isn't_ that long. (I know rewilding is
more than just reverting, but similar.)

Adam was doing rewilding before Peggoi’s 100th. He had a falling out with
Brine who eventually, after a couple of years I think, congratulated him
after Justin probably made a positive comment on BLand’s improved yields.
Though I have such a rubbish memory that may not be accurate but plausible
in content if not time scale. Pretty sure Pipsqueak and Adam have worked
st the same timescale.

Adam does not do re-wilding. He did some herbal leys to improve the
soil quality but that was not re-wilding.
