Birthday News for today, 2 April: Grace Archer (in memoriam).
Wikipedia shows that the actress, Ysanne Churchman, remains with us and
will be 99 next month.

Should somebody undertake a study of The Archers Best Friends - a lot of
them seem to have very long lives - does working on TA extend your life
span?

Ahh you have been listening to the nonsense which passed for TA this
week then.

It is supposed to be a drama in a rural setting and the only rural bit
was about a farrier on t'internetwebbythingy being fit. The rest of it
could have come straight out of an EastEnd square.

Jolene could surely have found a few other people to take over Emma's
hours without that horrid pleading scene, Robert couldn't be thick
enough to insist when Jolene again told him to and she would surely
have finally confided in almost anyone else, Fallon, Harrison, Wayne,
Lilian.. and Justin isn't that socially clumsy.

I’m struggling to remember coherent plot lines. I think my hearing is now
getting to the stage where I don’t recognise all the voices quickly enough
each scene.

Talking of East End squares, Manchester back-streets, Liverpool
housing estates and Yorkshire Dales and the like, there's been a
flurry of activity today discussing the demise of the soap opera
because as (they) say, times are changing and soaps are yesterday's
entertainment or, as (the others) say "Give us back our boodily
entertainment programmes without all the implausible love affairs,
crime and 'issues'."

Most recent commentary was on Front Row tonight but I've heard it
mentioned elsewhere too: has a report, or something, just been
published?

No but perhaps listening to TA makes it seem like it does.😵‍💫

Also famous 25 years after Grace as a squeaky-voiced pompous alien of
the Third Doctor era (the story where Pertwee pacified the Beast by
singing God Rest Ye Merry to it).

Rosie
And she was in a Sherlock Holmes story on R4X this morning of which I
caught only the closing credits.

It certainly seems that way!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_longest-serving_soap_opera_actors
list of 50 has a current TA actor in positions 1, 4, 7, 8, 12, 16, 17,
19, 22, 27, and 39 (I wasn't expecting it to be quite so many when I
started typing those numbers!).

And quite a high proportion have honours, too. ("Citation needed", as
Wikipedia are fond of saying; I remember seeing a list including their
honours, but I can't find it now. I think it _was_ in the context of
longevity.)

2 April is also the birthday of my 1962 Triumph Herald 1200 Coupe, ordered by
my godmother and owned by her for 20 years.
