Wot?

Nobody's said nuffingk?

Was I the only one listening?

I can't tell you what happened because that would be a spolier but
let's say that after one particular storyline had been dragged to an
unrealistic length for months on end for dramatic purposes, I felt the
attempt to suddenly bring it towards a close was taken with
implausible haste.

I don't think that was a serious question, was it, Sam? But I wanted to
know the answer anyway since the LW listings disappeared from the
schedule around the time that some R4LW programmes got shunted off to
R4x. So, with nothing better to do this sleepless night, I dug out one
of my radios with a LW tuner and yes, LW is still there. At least it's
still there until the final set of thermionic valves goes "pop!"

R4 LW was supposed to shut down in the spring of this year. One of the
reasons it hasn't is because it is used for the Radio Teleswitching
service, which controls off-peak electricity supplies to domestic
premises, one of which is mine. Smart meters will have to be fitted to
allow this to continue, and there seems to be no chance of this
happening any time soon. Great, suits me. Latest switch-off date is
"summer of 2025", which is suitably vague.

I remember reading, quite some time ago, that there were less than a
half dozen output valves in existence. Surely we must be down to minus
eight by now?

Spoilersport - he did not tell the police the truth, the whole truth and
nothing but the truth when interviewed. Now without a transcript of the
interview (it was not broadcast) I am unsure. It depends how he
described arriving at the scene of the accident (presumably not driving
the car) nor moving the comatose body into the drivers' seat. Obviously
he may not have been cautioned but in not providing the truth it might
be that he has perverted the course of justice.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that framing Alice, both moving her into the
driving seat and telling the police that she had been driving, would
count as that.

But did he actually tell the police that Alice had been driving? I may
have missed it.

As for moving her, that's clearly something like attempting to pervert
etc, but if he comes clean before the course of justice (British Justice
- the best money can buy) has run, then he has surely abandoned any such
attempt?

Wasting listeners' time would be a more serious charge.

I'm sure he must have had to give a statement, the night of the
accident, saying that he'd found Alice, semi-conscious, in the driving
seat of the car. I'm not sure if he claimed to have actually seen the
accident, with Alice behind the wheel, or if his story was that he
arrived shortly after the event.

This website seems to support the view that George's actions would
qualify as perverting the course of justice

I think I am with you. I do not like George much in the first place and
frankly did not think much of his performance. Emma wants to protect
her little boy and yet most of us know that he is a calculating little
s*** and the way he had a go at Ed over not loving him was proof to me
that he deserves the full force of the law - even if it ends up with (as
I would expect) community service. The original incident was an
accident and given his age and first known offence I doubt that he would
be charged with perverting the course of justice if he owns up now.

Obviously those not listening can guess that George has admitted his
failure to tell the truth initially - but to be honest as he is not an
Archer I don't care. There was one Archer in the incident - and she
needs her name to be cleared - but she was already drinking because of
Harry so we cannot blame George for that - indeed he may well have helped.

Alice, clearly, isn’t yet fit to do anything and IMHO, shouldn’t till her
case has bern heard. Would have thought some people would have looked into
this before she returned from rehab (which I thought was way too short for
a re-offender). Or is she just cunning and devious?

Don’t know why Brine can think so highly of her and Krait. Not a patch on
Dobbie abd Adam.

Parentage. Adam was the spawn of the Irish whilst Debbie (who was once
the blue-eyed daughter) is Roger's. Kate and Alice are his own and
therefore will come higher up the pecking order.

I am not sure Alice's absence was particularly short. The cause of the
relapse was Harry and so in some ways easier to compute and get back on
the rolling waggon.
